Them's the Brakes

When researching towing RVs, Meric read a few things about brake controllers. It is a device that you install in under your dashboard and wire through to the truck's wiring harness and helps control the trailer brakes. Its necessary when towing heavier trailers equipped with their own brakes. There are different kinds of plugs and wiring, Meric's truck had a 6-way adapter and our trailer uses a 7-way adapter. That meant that we needed to change one to fit the other. Meric installed the brake controller and was planning on changing the plug adapter too. We went to a shop in town that sells trailer supplies to get the parts. While we were there we had them run a quick check on the adapter Meric had installed just to make sure it was working properly. (We didn't want to find out while towing the trailer if there were any problems.) It turns out it was a good thing we did because even though the adapter was working, the wiring in the back of the truck had corroded and so it wouldn't have controlled the trailer brakes. The guy in the shop was great and helped us right away. He looked at what we bought (items recommended by the sales guy), exchanged it for what we actually needed and showed and helped Meric change the adapter. Now Meric knows first hand all of the wiring and what needs to be done. It was really cool of the shop guy to help us right away and to show Meric how to do it. Now the brake controller is all ready for towing. One more things checked off of a long, long list.
